September 9th

We did the Derry (Londonderry) Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour yesterday after we had started our walking tour and found it just as the rain descended on us.

We learned much more about “The Troubles” along with many other interesting things about the town. We toured Guild Hall and some other areas outside of the walled area near the River Foyle.

We also heard about “Dopey Dick”, a killer whale that ventured up the Foyle River a few years back. He was dubbed this by the locals as he couldn’t figure out how to get back to the ocean on his own. Now there’s a local brewery that makes a pretty good beer as we found out when we stopped for a refreshing beverage early in the afternoon.

We also found some great bar food – lasagna and beef pasta with a sauce to die for. They also call the thin, breaded onions “tobacco onions” for some reason, but they’re very good in spite of the name.

That last picture is this morning’s projection of where hurricane Irma will go through Florida. It could be the best we could hope for on the east-central coast of Florida and for landing a plane in Orlando on Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.). Not so good for southern Florida and the western coast of the state. Daytona Beach Shores is just above that bump on the east coast about 2/3rds of the way up the state. If this is the case, we’d get mostly winds from the east and south this time as the center goes up and past us to the west. Watch those southern sliding doors, Paula! PR

It seems like you will be able to get in on Tuesday evening as long as the storm stays on track. If you have any issues, please text me and I’ll do whatever I can to help!
Enjoy your trip-I’m praying that the rain gods give you a break. On the bright side, there should be some beautiful rainbows!

The weather angels certainly came through today at Giants Causeway and the rope bridge. We were just talking about you here at Bushmills Inn Restaurant – sticky toffee pudding on the way!
